What is the TESOL program?

• The Diploma in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL) program is an 8 week intensive program primarily designed for intermediate to advanced ESL learners interested in teaching ESL to adult learners in their own countries in classroom settings. It may also be suitable for teachers with some previous experience.
• The program includes interactive methodology sessions, peer teaching opportunities and a supervised practicum with adult ESL learners under the guidance of highly experienced and trained teacher trainers.
• The program also includes preparation and entry for the University of Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT).

“TKT offers candidates a step in their professional development as teachers and enables them to move onto higher-level teaching qualifications and access professional support materials, such as journals about English language teaching (ELT)”.

Young Learners (YL) Extension

The Young Learner Module is a teacher training course that provides participants with the basic knowledge and skills needed to teach ESL to children.  

The module follows a communicative approach to the teaching of young learners in different contexts. 

The course runs Monday-Friday, 10am – 4pm, for a total of 50 hours. This includes methodology sessions and a practicum. 

The Young Learner Module can be taken:

• As a 2 week extension to the GV TESOL Diploma Course
• As an independent 2 week program 

Successful graduates will receive a GV TESOL Young Learner Module Certificate

What requirements do I need to apply for the TESOL Diploma program?

• You have to be at least 18, preferably over 20
• If English is not your first language, then you must have a minimum TOEIC score of 550; or minimum TOEFL score of 490 (163 computer exam); and GV Intermediate Level of English, as determined by the GV Level Placement Assessment.
